Dr. Tom Edmunds

"Dr. Snippy"

I was born here in Columbia in 1967 raised by loving parents. I went to Hammond, played lots of sports, went to Davidson College, and then took a year off after Davidson to play in a talented band that played up and down the eastern USA near Charlotte. I also waited tables and was a cook for a year. This was a wonderful and maturing period.

I chose to go to MUSC, studied hard, and moved to New York for six years! Six years to be a tee-tee doctor. Oh well.

I was in a very busy training program at State University of New York, where I slept little, worked hard, learned a lot, took care of very sick people, operated on some horrible cancers, did kidney transplants, figured out what I enjoyed doing, and strove to be the best I could. The program had only one urology resident per year, so I was able to perform a ton of complex surgeries.

I moved to Columbia, SC right before 9/11 and joined Columbia Urological PA. I worked there for five years. I had some wonderful partners and learned so much.

I decided to go out on my own and get off the busy treadmill I was on. I opened Capitol Urology in 2005, and I have never enjoyed practicing medicine more.

I’m sub-specialized in no-scalpel vasectomies in my office (more than 5,000 happy patients), expert diagnosis and counseling of prostate cancer, and treatment of erectile dysfunction, prostate enlargement (BPH), and testicular and penile lesions. I utilize cutting edge technology and minimally invasive techniques to take care of my patients.

When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my wife, our five children (yes, I’ve had a vasectomy!) or rocking out on electric guitar with my band, Bandkamp. Check us out!

Test Results

Results from procedures, x-rays, or tests ordered by Dr. Edmunds are generally returned to our office within one week. Results are available in the patient portal, and if further conversation or follow-up is needed, we will call to schedule an appointment for Dr. Edmunds to review results with you.

Paying For Your Visit

We accept cash and most major credit cards. A 3% charge is applied for all credit card transactions. Insurance co-payments are due at your appointment check-in, and vasectomy procedures require payment in full at the time of appointment.

You may call before your appointment to get an estimated cost of services, but it’s important to understand this is only an estimate. With so many insurance companies and policies available, we are unable to know all the details of your individual plan. It is your responsibility to understand your insurance and our billing policies.

Referral Forms, Managed Care Pre-Authorizations and Pre-Certifications

We require all written referral forms and information before the visit begins in order for us to determine that all anticipated services will be covered. If you do not have this information when you check in for your appointment, you may be responsible for some or all of the visit charges that insurance does not cover. Your health insurance plan makes all final determinations of coverage. The patient is responsible for any services not covered by your health plan.

Medical Records

The information contained in your medical record is strictly confidential. We value the trust you place in us to keep this information confidential and will not release information without your signed permission. If you wish to have a copy of your medical records, you will need to first sign and send us the required HIPAA Release Form.

You may fax this signed form to our office or bring it by in person. For records more than 50 pages, a $25 charge applies.

Insurance and Medicare Patients

The cost of service is your responsibility, so it is important for you to understand your individual insurance policy and coverage. As a courtesy to you, we will file an electronic claim with your primary insurance. In order for us to file with your insurance, we require a current insurance card (no digital cards) for all appointments. We are unable to see you for a scheduled appointment if you arrive without your current insurance card.

For Medicare patients, we accept Government Medicare only. We are not in network with Medicare Advantage, Humana, Blue Cross Medicare or United Healthcare.

New Patients

If you are a new patient, please print and complete the forms below and bring them to your first appointment. We look forward to having you in our practice!
